Chiswick born jazz musician Guy Barker has been awarded the MBE in the New Year Honours 2015 for services to Music. Guy started playing the trumpet at the age of 12 and with a year had joined the National Youth Jazz Orchestra.

 

 

 

It was at the Chiswick Music Centre that Guy’s musical appreciation really blossomed and gained breadth. His career has included playing alongside a host of greats including Georgie Fame, James Carter, Mike Westbrook, Frank Sinatra, Colin Towns, Natalie Merchant, Haircut One Hundred, Erasure, Chris Botti, Wham!, Kajagoogoo, The Housemartins, Matt Bianco, Alphaville, The Moody Blues, Sting, Bucks Fizz, Mike Oldfield, Cleo Laine, Acoustic Alchemy, and XTC. Now associate composer for the BBC Concert Orchestra, his band has been recently performing with Paloma Faith at the Proms.

Guy is also Patron of Brass For Africa, a charity with the mission to transform young lives and communities in the poorest areas of Africa through music and learning.
