Bank Of England To Launch New £20 Note Featuring J M W Turner

The Bank of England will be launching a new £20 note featuring the self portrait and work of local artist J M W Turner. The new £20 notes come into circulation on February 20th 2020.

Chief Cashier, Sarah John visited Turner’s House in Richmond to view the house and do a brief presentation. You can see the Turner’s House website here.

This is the first time that a £20 note will feature a self-portrait. It’s also the first note to bear the signature of Sarah John, Chief Cashier. The note will also feature Turner’s painting, The Fighting Temeraire.

Lorna Ko chatted with Sarah John and Ricky Craig Pound, a Trustee of  Turner’s House.

The new polymer £20  note is the most secure Bank of England banknote yet. The note has two windows and a two colour foil.

The new £20 release date uk is 20th February 2020.
